FEATURE IN TILDY MAGAZINE

My beautiful friend Bonnie, who I know from Art School, has just made a beautiful online publication called Tildy Magazine! It's full of sweet and crafty ideas that are both fashionable and sustainable. Please have a read! You can even click the links to open other websites in another tab. So great!

There is a range of interviews with some wonderful & creative women and I feel so privileged to have been a part of it. Other's include my fellow illustration friend Ashleigh Meyer  who is a stylish lady and a master at watercolour painting, and Katrina Willcox who is an artistic gem who always has great advice when it comes to anything. Not to forget the darling Bonnie herself who upcycles vintage clothing into unique fashions which forms her brand, Seconhand Chic'

Tildy also has some really lovely tutorials like how to make a camera strap out of a silk scarf which I am so keen to do! Also some home remedy beauty secrets that means you aren't putting any nasty chemicals on your body.

Be sure to have a read!

VINTALIER SPRING/SUMMER LOOKBOOK

Vintalier S/S Lookbook 2013
Photography : Cel Jarvis
Model : Autumn Johnson
Styling : Ellen Hsu
Make-up & Hair : Lindsay Avenetti

I just love this lookbook by Vintalier! They are a vintage online store based in Portland, Oregon that celebrates the joy of wearing vintage clothing. I personally love finding treasures in second hand/vintage stores, but it is sometimes a bit of mission sorting through all the ugly stuff to find the gems. Though the accomplishment is worth it in the end, just imagine if there was someone else curating all the beautiful discoveries into a collection!

Tecnically this lookbook is from earlier in the year, but because I'm in the Southern hemisphere it means we are now in Spring/Summer (my favourite). So I'm looking at many S/S lookbooks for inspiration as well as keeping my Spring & Summer pinterest boards filled with ideas on what I'll be wearing at this time of year. I always seem to like pastels and florals for Spring, and crisp white cotton and festival style for Summer. So this lookbook has many inspiring pieces for me. Doesn't the model look very Elvish? Perhaps I'm just excited for the release of the Hobbit in a couple of weeks time!

PRETTY DEER

I couldn't resist sharing this beautiful image of a deer I came across. They are such majestic creatures and I have always been fond of them. I particularly love the colouring in the mist of this photograph and it inspires me to be more creative with my editing.

Apologies for the pixelated image, but it was too pretty not to feature!

VINTAGE WATERCOLOUR ILLUSTRATION

I love vintage imagery. There is something so romantic about an illustration that has taken time, observation, skill and effort. I found this watercolour painting of roses in one of those old "How to paint with Watercolour" books and I find it so beautiful and inspiring.

AMY SCHEEPERS PHOTOGRAPHY // WITH NOKIA + 10&5

Photography : Amy Scheepers

These beautiful photograph's were taken by one of my favourite photographer's, Amy Scheepers in collaboration with 10&5 and the new Nokia Lumia 1020. Her outcomes feature dreamy light, many blooms, and a ballerina like model in an ornate, abandoned white room. I always admire Amy's used of space, light and composition and she maintains a quality in all her photographs that so uniquely her style. She also runs a lovely lifestyle, photography and fashion blog called Fancy Pants which is one of my regular reads.

From Amy about her concept for this shoot :

"For a while now I have envisioned a small elfish girl covered in flowers in a vast white space… and this was immediately the idea I reached for first when planning this series of images.
The majority of my work stems from the desire I have to create an ethereal world, which allows the viewer a few moments to escape their reality. To achieve this dreamy, rather theatrical style of image, there are many factors at play above the taking of the photograph itself. In particular, the costumes and set-design are vital to the success of the image, which lead to them playing a large role in this series. Flowers are a re-occurring theme in many of my photographs even though it is never a conscious decision. I’m drawn to them and often shoot with no other intention than to capture what makes me happy. I also favor clean spaces, and find the simplicity and contrast to the subject quite refreshing.
With these factors in mind, the idea for this series started taking form.
When someone looks at this collection of work I’d like them to perceive it as something with a dreamlike quality, something that leaves them feeling somewhat lighter. I tend to come away from looking at my idol’s works feeling enlightened and if I could achieve even a tiny sense of that in my own work I would feel as though I had accomplished something."

SINGER/SONGWRITER: ASHLEY MAY // WITH ROSE TINTED ILLUSTRATION

Photography, Design & Illustration : Maree of Rose Tinted

If you remember these photograph's I took of my beautiful friend Ashley May, you will know they were part of a shoot to get an image to illustrate her portrait. Here is the complete illustration, and the CD cover design for her first single feathers which I am so excited about! She has the most amazing voice and I just love hearing her sing. I can't wait to have a recording of her so I can hear it whenever I like.

DREAM GARMENT :: PRETTY SUMMER KIMONO!

I'm absolutely a fan of these floaty summer kimono's in pretty patterns and fabrics. I've compiled these images together for inspiration to make a few of my own. They're not actually very difficult as demonstrated in this DIY post I found via pinterest by Life in Mod Blog.

If I was to buy one, I quite like this floral kimono by Altar'd State or this lace embroidered kimono with a tassle trim by Glassons. I like the idea of having both a floral one and a white lace and since they don't seem too difficult to make, there's no reason not to make both!

PEPPERMINT MAGAZINE // JULIA TROTTI PHOTOGRAPHY

Photography by : Julia Trotti

Peppermint Magazine is one of my favourites! It's all about style, sustainability and substance thus providing an eco-friendly option for the fashionably, and environmentally conscious females out there. It encourages us all to be more aware of wordly issues and struggles which is something we are so easily ignorant of with all the distractions around us. Peppermint is in lieu of supporting handmade, artisan practices whilst being on trend with the latest design styles whether it's fashion, make up, food, photography, graphic design or illustration.

The Spring 2013 Issue features the beautiful works of fashion photographer Julia Trotti who did the cover image and a spread called strawberry fields. She is quickly becoming one of my favourite photographers with her careful use of lighting and creative angles for each shot.

PINTEREST PRETTIES // OMBRÉ HAIR

At the moment my hair is ombré which basically means it graduates from brunette to blonde at the ends. To be completely honest, it was at first unintentional, I just hadn't gotten my hair highlighted for some months. But the more my regrowth grew out,  the more I liked it. You see I've been toying with the idea of going brunette for a few years now, but I like my blond too much to let it go. I was more blond as a child so it just feels like it's my true self. But like many others, my hair darkened to a light brown with age.

I've found this is a great way to have the best of both!! Plus it works great all year round by looking beachy in Summer and earthy in Autumn. The other thing I've been trying to do for the last 5 years (or possibly my whole life) is grow my hair out really long, like down my back. I'm getting there, but very slowly...

SELF PORTRAIT // FLOWER CROWN

Photography : Eloise of Jazz Lips & Tulips
Art Direction / Styling / Editing : Maree of Rose Tinted Photography

In this portrait I'm wearing on of my favourite white dresses which I got from H&M whilst I was in England, and one of my own handmade flower crowns. I absolutely love flower crowns! You'll notice they often feature in my Rose Tinted Illustration's cause I find them so pretty. I have fun making them too, so if you also like flower crowns, feel free to contact me (rosetintedillustration@gmail.com) so I can craft you a custom crown!

I think like most people, it is hard to like photo's of yourself. But in this instance, I kinda love this frame. It has a lot to do with the dreamy lighting and the pinky, purple tone (which occured naturally, honestly I did barely any editing). It reminds me of this Tea Party fashion spread for Vogue China by Amber Gray Photography.

This was a frame from the Cherry Blossom Shoot I did with my Sister-in-law/Best friend, Eloise of Jazz Lips & Tulips. We were just at the point of getting glorious late afternoon sunshine which is possibly the best time of day.

ASHLEY MAY BALDERSTON // SONGBIRD

Rose Tinted Photography

My beautiful friend Ashley is an amazing singer/songwriter with a voice like a a songbird. She recently was given the opportunity to do a recording and asked me to help out with the album art.

We decided on doing an illustrated portrait which I am currently working on. You'll just have to wait and see! But we also did a fun little photoshoot in two parts. I've been wanting to do a photoshoot with a wall of pretty pink blooms since seeing these photo's of Audrey Hepburn & Natalie Portman. Ashley was so great to photograph. Isn't she so pretty? She's an even lovelier person who has been a dear friend of mine for over a decade.
