ALI MITTON // PHOTOGRAPHY

Photography by Ali Mitton

I have been inspired by the dreamy photos by Ali Mitton ever since seeing them on Daydream Lily blog a few years ago. I love the way she captures light in such an ethereal manner and how all her images have a pastel effect. This makes them ultra feminine and just oh so pretty. I hope you like them as much as I do!

MY BEAUTIFUL AUNTY AVERIL // AN ILLUSTRATION

(c) Rose Tinted Illustration

I am very blessed to know this woman, let alone share the same blood. She is fun-loving, optimistic and slightly cheeky, plus she gives some of the best hugs. She is the vibrant, warm colours of Autumn and she wears them well too. The photo reference I had for this illustration was in black and white but I couldn't resist drawing her in colour. It suits her better.

She hasn't had it easy, in fact her life has been quite difficult to say the least. Though she has always maintained a sense of optimism and grace through hardship. Admirable qualities of an inspirational woman. She is currently battling cancer. It started in her breasts and after a double mastectomy we all thought it had gone. But no, it has now spread to her bones. It is such a cruel disease and it affects so many lives. I've heard that when a person gets cancer, so does a family, a community even. It's true. But it also means there is a whole rally of people who are willing and able to support that person.

Today is my Aunty Averil's birthday and for her gift I illustrated her portrait. It was my mother's idea and being the two youngest in a family of six children, they are both sisters and best friends.

Isn't she gorgeous? x

BOHO BEAUTY // ROSE TINTED ILLUSTRATION

One of my recent bohemian inspired illustrations that I created for a competition run by Spell Designs for their new tote bag. Love their aesthetic, you've got to check out their website! All those lovely boho clothes that you see on pinterest are most likely by them.

"YOU'RE MY SWEETHEART" // HAND PAINTED ILLUSTRATIVE DESIGN

Photographs by Stephan and Nakita

You may remember last month we had our Anniversary shoot with our good friends Stephan & Nakita who are such talented photographer's and a wonderful pair.

I wanted to design some stationery to go with the shoot. I have been so in love with gorgeous floral invitations which I have documented on my Typography & Invitation Design pin board. I adore the look of pastel paint on brown paper (for this I used an exceptional metallic piece). I painted pale mint leaves with soft pink ranunculus blooms and white lily of the valley to frame the paper. I used a handwritten script font in white to convey a message for my beloved.

I would love to recreate this as a wedding invite! I would put the couple's name in the same script type I used for the wording and add the information in the lower right quadrant in a clean, capitalised font (sans serif for sure). I love to design wedding stationery, so flick me an email (rosetintedillustration@gmail.com) if you would like a custom illustrated design. It doesn't have to be a wedding either, I can design for any occasion such as a 21st or special birthday, a baby shower or an anniversary. I'd love to hear from you!

THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL // A WES ANDERSON FILM

I recently saw this latest Wes Anderson Film and was blown away with the unique cinematography. With a stella cast and each scene just as beautiful and well composed as the last, it's a feast for the eyes! Blink and you'll miss it.

I loved the quirky humour and the spark of the cast. The slight arkwardness of the characters and the elaborate set design they are surrounded by. The hotel itself is gorgeous with it's ombré pink walls and doll house appearance. Well worth a watch!

GIANT HANDMADE BLOOMS // BY TIFFANIE TURNER

Handmade Blooms by Tiffanie Turner

I am blown away by just how beautiful these handmade paper blooms are! Crafted by San Francisco Artist Tiffanie Turner who is also the maker behind Papel SF. My good friend/sister-in-law Eloise shared the link to this post by The Jealous Curator knowing I would love it!

There's something amazing and intriguing about things that are made on a large scale (or miniature for that matter). The time and skill it would take to make something like this is so admirable. Tiffanie has posted tutorials on how to make these beauties which you can view here.

THE CRAFT MARKET // A ROSE TINTED STALL

I had such a wonderful time at the craft market at Ponsonby Art Station on the weekend! It was really lovely meeting many wonderful people and I felt so encouraged by the kind words and compliments of my work. I had a great time styling my stall with my creations and it was nice to be in a sunny room. It was a fantastic venue for a market with many rooms for the exhibitors. I loved meeting and talking with the other amazing vendors and overall it was just a really great day! Thanks to Laura Giddey for organising this event, hopefully there will be more to come!

Thanks to my beautiful friend Soo Jeong for posing for a pic of her in a Rose Tinted Crown that matched her lipstick!

CRAFT MARKET // PREPARATION

I've been busy preparing for the upcoming Craft Market at Ponsonby Art Station this Saturday (10th May from 10-3pm). Art Station is the big beautiful red brick building at the top of Ponsonby Road (behind the BP petrol station). It will be a great opportunity to get those last minute gifts for Mother's Day on Sunday.

I've been getting new illustrations printed, crafting more flower crowns, designing packaging and preparing the styling of my stall. Needless to say, I'm very excited to be a part of this!

I've come up with a few other ideas of what you can do in Ponsonby! I recommend starting the day with a trip to The Lane in Ponsonby Central. It's a combined eatery and food market with many cafés and restaurants to choose from. It's perfect for all meals, and has a great vibe. Ponsonby Road is a great street to go shopping on, and features many stores of the best New Zealand designers and gorgeous homeware stores. My favourite store is The Yellow Brick Road Boutique, which is close to Ponsonby Central. Just make sure you start at the Craft Market!!

HYDRANGEA ILLUSTRATION

(c) Rose Tinted Illustration

I illustrated this pretty hydrangea for my sister-in-law and close friend Eloise Georgia Mae. She has since gotten it tattooed on the back of her upper arm and it looks lovely! If you keep an eye on her blog, she may share an image of it at some point.
