"Lola with Flower Crown"

This is one of my own illustrations using collage and graphite pencil on pale pink paper. This was my first time at including collage in my creative practice, and I must say I like it! I always thought collage was cheating, since I like to draw all the components of my illustrations. Though I was proved wrong when making this work. I enjoyed the therapeutic process of cutting out the individual images (tedious as it was), and discovered it was a really effective way to demonstrate my visual aesthetic.

Romantic Style Book

I came across this gorgeous book at the library where I completely fell in love with the styling by Selina Lake. Everything about this  book is just stunning from the decoration to the photography. I adore the attention to detail and of course the vintage elements. Things with a highly considered and embellished design really appeal to me, perhaps that is why I treasure items from a prior time. I also love the indulgence of having fresh flowers in every room, it makes me wish it was spring all year round.

I got this book from the book depository.co.uk, if you would like a copy for your coffee table, click here.

One Year Anniversary

To Maree & Louis from Carl Gaerlan on Vimeo.

I can't believe it has been over a year since the day I said "I do". It really has been an amazing year and I just love being married to such an incredible man.

This darling little anniversary video was created by a fellow student at Art school named Carl. He specializes in film/moving image and boy is he talented! It was a collaboration project as I did the styling and he did the filming and directing. The Morrocan Tent was something I used for my 21st to create an area where people could sit on cushions and just relax. It created a beautiful atmosphere especially when illuminated by vintage lamps and candles in jars. For this project, it was really neat to have a romantic night picnic under the stars, surrounded by things that we love. It felt really natural doing this film as we didn't feel like we were acting or pretending just because there was a camera around. I think that says a lot about the talent of the film maker and their personality. You are able to get better shots if you can let people feel relaxed when you are filming them, it's much less staged and rigid.

Just so you know, the song is called "Bloom" by The Paper Kites and it really complimented the project and our relationship so beautifully.
