Madame Lolina

I just adore these illustrations from Madame Lolina. She is inspired by celebrities but transforms them through drawing to suit her personal style. I like the soft pastel effect of her work and how they include peonies and birds (two of my favourite things).

Pushing Daisies

I've just finished watching my favourite television show ever for the 3rd time (at least). It's a pity that Pushing Daisies only lasted two seasons before a writer's strike forced it's end. It is such a quirky, fun-filled show about a pie maker who can wake the dead, but only for one minute or  something else in proximity has to die. Using this skill he helps solve murders with inspector Emerson Cod and one day he discovers his childhood sweetheart which adds a darling love story to the show.
Charlotte Charles a.k.a. Chuck plays an amazing leading lady and I must confess I have a style crush on this character and all her brightly coloured 50's and 60's inspired clothing. Makes me wish I suited wearing vibrant yellows, reds and greens, Although I have a very similar red lace dress as pictured in the cover of season 2 (the final image), only my dress doesn't have an a-line skirt but is more fitted with a pencil shape.
Also Kristen Chenoweth's character is called Olive Snook which is the name of my late grandmother. There really isn't anything else like this show created by Brian Fuller, if you haven't seen it already it's a must watch.

Rose Magazine Launch!

 This is it! My final installation for my Bachelor of Visual Arts degree. I had a lot of space to play with, which  actually made my initial plan of having just a angled shelf against the wall with the poster seem too insignificant. In order to add more presence and to further occupy the space, I created the sweet bunting flags using floral patterns that were actually used in the magazine. Though I only discovered that I needed these flags two and a half days before deadline which created a bit of stress! Mum's new printer at her work came to the rescue to print the flags for a fraction of the cost as it would have been to do them at Uni. Making them was well worth it however, and they really fit within the style of Rose magazine.

Instead of having a  shelf attached to the wall, I ended up using this plinth at the recommendation of my lecturers. This was a great plan as it meant viewers could walk around it rather than waiting for someone else to finish. However, the only plinth in our entire Art School that was the right height, shape and size was painted black! So the day before deadline I had to paint many, many layers in order to make it a pale shade of pink! But again it was worth it, but boy am I glad I allocated those 3 days to installation cause boy did I need that time!

A Rose Tinted Market Stall

I ran a stall at the open day of the final exhibition for my degree selling illustration prints, flower crowns, bunting flags and hand crafted book ornaments/flowers. It was a good experience having a stall, I enjoyed talking with people and watching people try on flower crowns. Definitely something I would like to do again.

Caitlin Bellah

I love the romantic style of Californian photographer Caitlin Bellah. She currently resides in Barcelona and has travelled to many places such as Paris, New York, Los Angeles and London.

She desires for her images to have a painterly quality which I think is achieved without delflecting the fact it is a photograph.

Farah Loux

This image is the gorgeous cover art for New Zealand band Farah Loux's Debut Album "Flaws" illustrated by their friend Bonnie Wroe. I have been listening to this band almost non-stop lately! The album has good variety and it's 6 members are so musically talented. Did I mention they have a harpist?? My dream instrument! Have a listen here on bandcamp before you purchase the album to support these young talents.

Element Eden High Summer 2012 Campaign

The new campaign by Element Eden Australia, is full of some of my favourite things: Sunshine, pastel colours, floral garments, caravans and 50's styling. How gorgeous is the model/musician Claire Rayner with her cotton candy  tresses? Seriously loving the different hairstyles used here.
